On a corner of Kauai, an eight-year-old boy is obsessed with possibility of finding the legendary sea monster, "Bugfish". Against the wishes of his over-bearing father, he and his best friend go on a journey to the find the feeding grounds of the mythic fish.

No, bugfish is not really a legendary sea monster. :-)

Jonathan’s father is obsessed with constructing a massive cement garden, representing his interpretation of “rejected gods” (whatever that means). The garden has become so large that now almost completely conceals their small home.

Jonathan isn’t allowed to go to school. Instead he’s forced to help his father construct these monstrosities.
